Sergei Chemezov, a close ally of President Vladimir Putin and CEO of Russia’s Rostec corporation, has warned that the United States and its Western allies risk triggering a global war if they continue to “provoke” the conflict in Ukraine.
In a rare insight into Putin’s inner circle, Chemezov stated that Russia feels confident and has sufficient weapons to continue its special military operation in Ukraine.
Chemezov accused the US of stoking the conflict by supplying weapons to Kyiv and allowing strikes deep into Russia, warning that the further escalation of the conflict could draw the world into a global conflict.
He reiterated the Kremlin’s position that the conflict is a battle between the West and Russia, with the West seeking to humiliate Russia.
The comments come after a surprise Ukrainian incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, to which Putin has promised a “worthy” response. Chemezov’s remarks suggest that Russia is prepared for a long-term conflict and is increasing its weapons production.
Chemezov also dismissed concerns about the impact of sanctions on Russia’s economy, stating that the country has enough resources and has increased weapons production.
He described the departure of Western companies from the Russian market as an “opportunity” for Rostec.
The warning from Chemezov highlights the escalating tensions between Russia and the West over the Ukraine conflict, with both sides accusing each other of provocation and aggression.
The situation remains volatile, with the potential for further escalation and global consequences.
