Manchester City Mulling Gundogan Return

- Manchester City are bringing back Gundogan
- The 33-year-old departed City on a free transfer
- City are currently facing personnel challenges
Manchester City are exploring the possibility of bringing back midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who left the club for Barcelona last year.
The 33-year-old departed City on a free transfer after captaining the team to their historic Treble.
However, Barcelona’s financial difficulties have hindered their ability to register new signings, including Dani Olmo.
Releasing a high-earning player like Gundogan could alleviate these issues.
City are currently facing personnel challenges, with the departure of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid and an injury to Oscar Bobb.
Gundogan’s return could offer a short-term solution to these problems and would not require a lengthy adaptation period.
Manager Pep Guardiola was reluctant to see Gundogan leave last year, but the club was unable to meet his contract demands.
After joining City from Borussia Dortmund in 2016, Gundogan made 304 appearances for the club, scoring 60 goals.
During his seven-year tenure at Etihad Stadium, he won 14 trophies, including five Premier League titles, one Champions League, and other domestic honors.
