A 36-year-old barber, Samuel Boateng, has reportedly deserted his wife, Gloria Teye, after she gave birth to a set of male triplets, a few years following the birth of twins.

Gloria Teye, a 25-year-old resident of Nkurakan in the Yilo Krobo municipality, is now stranded at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.

She initially gave birth to the triplets at home with no medical assistance before being taken to a local clinic and subsequently transferred to the Regional Hospital.

While Gloria is being treated at the hospital, the triplets are receiving care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and are benefiting from Kangaroo mother care services.

Gloria recounts that her husband left the hospital immediately after a nurse informed him about the triplets’ birth. Since then, Samuel has not responded to any of her calls.

“My husband left the hospital when he learned that I had given birth to triplets. Despite our repeated attempts to reach him, he hasn’t answered,” Gloria said.

This latest addition brings their total number of children to seven, including twins and two older children. Gloria is lamenting the situation, expressing regret over expanding their family, especially in light of Samuel’s financial concerns.

Samuel had previously voiced worries about the financial strain of raising so many children and the challenges of running his barbershop, which is reportedly struggling due to high electricity costs and low customer turnout.

“The last time I had twins, and now triplets—perhaps that’s why he is so upset. He mentioned during my pregnancy that things were tough. Even the four children we already have are a burden to him. His barbershop is near collapse due to high electricity tariffs and low patronage,” Gloria added.

The distressed mother is now seeking financial assistance from the public to cover her hospital expenses.

“We urgently need financial help to pay for my hospital bills. We appeal to Ghanaians for support,” she pleaded.

Hospital authorities have also expressed concern over the increasing number of mothers unable to pay their medical bills and subsequently becoming stranded at the facility despite being discharged.
