Manchester: Ghanaian Mother Dies Heroically While Protecting Her Children in Knife Attack

Alberta Obinim, a 43-year-old caregiver from Gorton, Manchester, has been remembered as a hero following her tragic death while defending her children from a violent knife attack at their home.
The attack, according to report, occurred late Sunday night at approximately 11:20 pm.
Obinim, a devoted mother of four, courageously intervened when a knife-wielding assailant attacked her family. She successfully rescued one of her children and was attempting to escape with her family when she was fatally stabbed multiple times.
Despite her brave efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her 17-year-old daughter and 64-year-old husband are currently hospitalized with severe injuries. A 22-year-old man, believed to be acquainted with the family, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Witnesses described the terrifying scene, with accounts of a child found hiding in a neighbor’s bushes and others fleeing through windows as the attacker pursued them.
The local community and colleagues have been deeply affected by Obinim’s death. A colleague praised her as “amazing” and “lovely,” while family friend Ibrahim Abu emphasized her significance within the Ghanaian community in Manchester. Derrick Wiafe described her as a “powerful and inspirational woman.”
Detective Superintendent Toby Facey has promised a comprehensive investigation, urging anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
The tragedy has left the community in shock, mourning the loss of a woman celebrated for her kindness and care, described as a “mother to everyone.”
