Agenda 111 Hospitals to Become Operational Soon – Health Minister

The Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, has assured that all district hospitals under the Agenda 111 project will be fully operationalized. During the launch of the New Patriotic Party’s 2024 manifesto, Dr. Okoe-Boye stated that the Akufo-Addo administration is working diligently to ensure that some of the hospitals become operational by the end of the year.

He emphasized that all district hospitals will be completed and operationalized within the first term of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The Agenda 111 project, launched in August 2021, aimed to complete 111 hospitals across the country within 18 months.

However, the project has faced delays, with few months left before the end of 2024. Dr. Okoe-Boye attributed the delays to challenges in acquiring land in urban communities and local contractors’ lack of capacity.

He explained that the government relied solely on indigenous contractors for the project, but some contractors lacked the necessary capacity, leading to changes in the project timeline. The Minister highlighted that land issues and contractor capacity were the primary reasons for the delays.

Dr. Okoe-Boye assured that the government is working to resolve these issues and complete the project as soon as possible. The completion of the Agenda 111 project is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery in Ghana, and the government’s efforts to address the challenges are being closely monitored.
