Provisional Voter Register Released to Political Parties – EC
- EC releases provisional voter register to parties.
- Release comes after pressure from stakeholders.
- Voter register exhibition set for Aug 20-27.
- All parties receive provisional register drives.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has finally released the provisional voter register to political parties, following intense pressure from stakeholders. The release of the provisional voter register comes ahead of the voter register exhibition exercise, scheduled to take place from Tuesday, August 20 to August 27, 2024.
At a press conference held at the EC headquarters on Monday, Deputy Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Bossman Asare, addressed concerns that the commission had failed to provide the provisional voter register to political parties. Dr. Asare explained that the EC is still within its scheduled timeframe for delivering the provisional register to political parties, as per Regulation 22 of CI 31, amended by CI 126.
According to Dr. Asare, the commission is required to provide the provisional register to political parties not later than three months from the end of the registration period. The limited registration exercise ended on May 29, 2024, and the mop-up registration ended on August 3, 2023, giving the EC until the end of August 2024 to provide the provisional register.
Dr. Asare confirmed that external drives containing the provisional voters register are available for pickup by political parties. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has already collected its external drive, while other parties have also received theirs, according to Dr. Asare.
The voter register exhibition exercise, scheduled to commence on Tuesday, August 20, will provide an opportunity for citizens to verify their details on the register. The exhibition exercise will conclude on August 27, 2024, and is a critical step in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the voter register ahead of the upcoming elections.
