Luxury Yacht Sinks in Sicily, One Dead, Six Missing

A tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning when a luxury yacht sank off the coast of Sicily, resulting in the death of one person and the disappearance of six others.

The 56-meter vessel, carrying 22 people including British, American, and Canadian nationals, encountered a severe storm overnight.

The storm caused waterspouts to form over the sea, leading to the yacht’s mast breaking and ultimately sinking.

Emergency services rescued 15 people, including a one-year-old British girl.

Divers have located the wreckage 50 meters below the water’s surface and are searching for the missing individuals.

The body of one man has been recovered outside the wreckage, but his nationality remains unconfirmed. Several survivors were rescued by a nearby Dutch-flagged vessel and received medical attention before being transferred to emergency services.

The storm caused widespread damage throughout the port, with debris, including cushions from the deck, floating in the sea.

Footage from the wreckage site showed helicopters and coastguard vessels assisting in the search efforts.

Eight of the rescued individuals are currently receiving treatment in hospital.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of the sea and the importance of maritime safety.
