Franklin Cudjoe Hails Bawumia’s 50-Minister Pledge
- Franklin Cudjoe commended Bawumia’s plan to limit the number of ministers to 50
- Franklin Cudjoe criticized Bawumia for not fully acknowledging the impact of his government's fiscal policies
- Franklin Cudjoe contested Bawumia's claims regarding unemployment rates
Franklin Cudjoe, the Founding President of IMANI Africa, has expressed strong approval of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent commitment to limit the number of ministers to 50, as announced during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) manifesto launch in Takoradi on August 18.
Franklin Cudjoe lauded this proposal as a “great move.”
In addition to the ministerial cap, Dr. Bawumia outlined several business-friendly initiatives, including a flat tax regime and direct incentives designed to foster business growth.
While Franklin Cudjoe appreciated the potential benefits of the flat tax system, he also voiced some concerns.
Cudjoe criticized Dr. Bawumia for not fully addressing how his government’s fiscal policies have contributed to current economic issues.
He disputed Bawumia’s claims about unemployment rates, arguing that the current rate is nearly four times higher than it was in 2016.
Furthermore, he questioned the relevance of the ongoing “Dumsor” issue, noting that power outages had been resolved by December 2016.
In a Facebook post, Cudjoe remarked, “DMB admits economic challenges but falls short of acknowledging the role his government’s fiscal recklessness contributed to the atrophy. It is not true that the unemployment rate was higher in 2016 than now. It is almost 4× higher now. And Dumsor was solved by December 2016 so there was no need for it in 2024. His Flat Tax idea though will be impactful if implemented well. His pledge to govern with 50 ministers is a great move,” he stated.
