Napoli manager Antonio Conte expressed his disappointment and apologized to fans following his side’s 3-0 defeat to Verona in his first game in charge.
Dailon Livramento opened the scoring for Verona, and fellow Serie A debutant Daniel Mosquera added two more goals to secure a comfortable victory for the home side.
Napoli, the reigning Serie A champions, finished 10th in the previous season after going through three different managers.
Conte, with previous managerial experience at Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, was appointed to replace Francesco Calzona this summer.
“We melted like snow in the sun,” Conte told Sky Sports Italia. “We should apologize to the Napoli supporters, who follow us with such passion. As the coach, it’s my responsibility to take full blame.”
Conte also hinted at the possibility of more signings to strengthen Napoli’s squad.
“We could potentially sign one, two, three, or even four players, depending on the club’s desire. We need to address the problems head-on, and they won’t be easy to solve,” he said.
