Upper East Regional Hospital Expansion Project Phase Three Launched

President Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the 175-bed capacity Upper East Regional Hospital rehabilitation project phase III in Bolgatanga, marking a significant milestone in the region’s healthcare infrastructure. The project, funded by the Saudi Fund for Development, aims to provide an ultra-modern secondary referral hospital service in the Region, addressing the growing healthcare needs of the population.

Initiated in 2014, the phase three of the rehabilitation project comprises several components, including the construction of a maternity block, modern laboratory, staff accommodation, laundry, kitchen, mortuary, medical gas plant, solid waste management system, road network, and fence wall.

The project also includes the procurement and installation of state-of-the-art equipment such as CT scan, body fridge, mammography machines, beds, and theatre equipment, significantly enhancing the hospital’s capacity to provide specialized care.

The additions will reduce patient wait time and improve health outcomes in the region, making it a centre of excellence with state-of-the-art facilities. Representing the Saudi Fund for Development, Mohammed Al-Shammari emphasized that the project aligns with their broader aim to improve and provide universal healthcare access, ensuring quality care for all individuals regardless of their financial situation.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, commended the Saudi Fund for Development for funding the project, describing it as a symbol of hope and a place where lives will receive healing and futures will be made brighter.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted that the hospital’s completion underscores his government’s commitment to providing modern health facilities that meet current healthcare standards in the country, with a total of 52 million dollars invested in the rehabilitation works.

The President also announced that similar hospital projects, including an urology and morphology centre of excellence at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, eleven District Hospitals, and a polyclinic each in the Eastern, Ashanti, Ahafo, and Greater Accra Regions, would be completed by the end of the year. These projects reinforce the nation’s infrastructure, demonstrating the government’s dedication to improving healthcare services and providing quality care to all citizens.
