Chelsea’s Gallagher Uncertain as Transfer Saga Continues
- Maresca confirmed Conor is not currently training
- The England international's future remains uncertain
- The defender is suspended following a red card
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Conor Gallagher is not currently training with the first-team squad and will miss the upcoming match against Manchester City.
The England international’s future remains uncertain amid ongoing transfer negotiations with Atletico Madrid.
Gallagher had been expected to join Atletico Madrid for a fee of £33 million, but the deal has stalled due to the collapse of a proposed move for striker Samu Omorodion from Atletico to Chelsea.
As a result, Atletico has been unable to secure the funds necessary to sign Gallagher.
Chelsea is now exploring the possibility of signing Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, but Gallagher has been recalled to London and is training separately at the club’s Cobham training ground.
Maresca acknowledged the situation and expressed hope for a positive resolution.
The club’s bloated squad has also been a topic of discussion.
Maresca explained that while the large number of players can present challenges, the coaching staff is focused on managing the available resources effectively.
He hinted at potential departures and hinted at interest in signing players like Joao Felix and Victor Osimhen.
Reece James remains the only player ruled out of the match against Manchester City due to injury.
The defender is suspended following a red card in the final game of the previous season.
