Rev. Fr. Michael Quaicoe, Director for Governance, Justice, and Peace at the Catholic Bishops Conference, has reassured the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Asiedu Nketia, that the conference is actively working behind the scenes to promote peace for the upcoming election.
Rev. Quaicoe emphasized that not all aspects of conflict resolution are suitable for public discussion. He explained that some matters are more effectively managed privately.
“We recognize that public discussion isn’t always the most effective way to address every issue. If a public approach is deemed most beneficial, we will use it. Otherwise, we may choose alternative methods,” he stated during an interview on August 15.
His comments came in response to Mr. Nketia’s assertion that the NDC would refrain from signing any peace declaration due to doubts about their effectiveness, based on past experiences.
Rev. Quaicoe reassured that the bishops are actively involved in efforts to maintain peace and justice in the country, despite not always being publicly visible.
The National Peace Council also committed to ongoing direct engagement with the NDC to address their concerns as the election approaches.
