Nigerian Afrobeat artist Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has addressed why he exclusively uses the Yoruba language in his music.
During an Instagram live session, a fan questioned the singer about his choice of language. In his response, Asake explained that while he is capable of singing in English, he feels a stronger connection to his native Yoruba language.
“I am more comfortable singing in Yoruba; it’s not that I can’t sing in English. If you fvck with me, fvck with me with my Yoruba. If not, then don’t,” Asake stated.
Meanwhile, renowned Nigerian music executive and CEO of Mavin Records, Don Jazzy, has shared his reasons for scheduling his artists’ releases carefully to avoid clashing with major names like Wizkid and Asake.
In an interview with Nigerian YouTuber Fisayo Fosudo on his podcast, Don Jazzy discussed why he strategically avoids releasing music on the same day as prominent artists. He described the potential clash as “suicidal” for his artists, emphasizing that he prefers to delay their projects to avoid competition and ensure their success.
Mavin Records, home to stars such as Rema, Ayra Starr, Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Johnny Drille, and Lifesize Teddy, adheres to this strategic release approach.
