Renowned Ghanaian celebrity and lifestyle blogger, Ameyaw Debrah, has shed light on the financial difficulties faced by bloggers in the industry. Speaking on JoyLearning’s ‘The Career Trail’ programme, Debrah highlighted the irregular nature of remuneration in blogging, unlike traditional jobs with monthly salaries.
“With blogging, your next pay cheque is not assured,” Debrah emphasized, attributing this uncertainty to fluctuations in audience engagement with content. He explained that periods of high consumption boost earnings, while periods of low consumption reduce them.
However, Debrah noted that bloggers can explore alternative revenue streams beyond content creation, such as paid posts, direct advertising, social media engagements, and promotions. “There are a lot of opportunities out there, so if you tap into it, and you build that network, that community, there are a lot of chances that you can make a living out of it,” he said.
Debrah also advised against quitting one’s job to start a blog, emphasizing the flexibility of blogging. “If you are starting, you don’t have to quit everything and do it. It’s about writing, creating content. When you get the chance, you can do it. You can do it once a week, twice a week, daily, based on what your schedule is. And so, the flexibility to do other things is there,” he noted.
