The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Roads and Highways to upgrade road networks leading to the country’s tourist attractions. This move comes in response to complaints from tourists regarding the poor condition of roads, particularly during the rainy season.
At a media briefing, GTA Chief Executive Officer Akwasi Agyeman emphasized the authority’s commitment to improving tourism infrastructure in the coming months. “We recognize that there’s still much to be done, especially in collaborating with other agencies on tourism infrastructure,” he stated.
Agyeman highlighted the challenges posed by the rainy season, saying, “We receive numerous complaints about the condition of roads leading to tourist sites. We are working closely with the Ministry of Roads through our own ministry to ensure that at least the final stretches leading to these sites are upgraded.”
The GTA CEO also revealed that Ghana has seen a significant influx of tourists in 2024, with nearly 600,000 visitors in the first half of the year. “This year is shaping up to be promising for our sector, as we recorded close to 600,000 tourist visits in the first half of the year,” he noted.
