Former President Donald Trump held a rally in Asheville, North Carolina, to promote his economic plan and revitalize his campaign amid a tightening White House race.
In a 90-minute speech, Trump pledged to reduce consumer prices and increase wages through tax cuts, energy policy reforms, and eliminating environmental protections.
However, he often went off-topic, attacking Vice President Kamala Harris and failing to unveil new proposals.
Trump’s speech focused on criticizing the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the economy, despite recent relief in inflation rates.
He promised to lower energy costs, reverse renewable energy projects, and maintain the Affordable Care Act, a shift from his previous stance.
The Harris campaign responded, accusing Trump of ignoring economic facts and lying during his speech. Recent polls suggest Harris is gaining ground in swing states, erasing Trump’s leads in Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Despite this, voters still trust Trump more on economic matters.
Harris is set to deliver her own economic proposals in North Carolina on Friday, as the race remains competitive ahead of the November election.
Trump supporters outside the rally expressed their backing for the former president, citing various reasons for their loyalty.
