The father of Spanish football prodigy Lamine Yamal has been seriously injured after being stabbed in a car park in Mataró, a coastal town north of Barcelona.
According to reports in Spanish media, Mounir Nasraoui was attacked by a group of people on Wednesday night. The incident is believed to have stemmed from an earlier altercation involving Nasraoui and the same group.
Catalan police have arrested four suspects in connection with the stabbing. Nasraoui was taken to hospital in a serious condition but is now said to be stable.
The attack occurred near the Rocafonda neighborhood where Yamal grew up. The 17-year-old Barcelona winger has been in the spotlight since his impressive performances at Euro 2024, where he was named Young Player of the Tournament.
The motivation for the stabbing remains unclear. While the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation, the attack has understandably caused concern among Yamal’s family and fans.
