Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Celebrates Milestones Under Current Leadership

As Korle Bu Teaching Hospital prepares to mark its 100th anniversary, CEO Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah has outlined the facility’s plans to enhance healthcare delivery. Dr. Ampomah expressed admiration for the staff’s confidence, believing they will help navigate the hospital’s challenges and drive success.

The hospital launched its centenary celebrations in October 2023, inviting Ghanaians and the global community to join in commemorating 100 years of excellence in training, research, advocacy, partnerships, and healthcare delivery.

Since the launch, the hospital has witnessed significant capital investments, including new infrastructure projects, rehabilitation of various centers, and procurement of modern equipment to boost service delivery. Dr. Ampomah highlighted the hospital’s achievements since he assumed leadership in 2020.

The seasoned Consultant Plastic Surgeon acknowledged that much work remains to be done but expressed optimism that ongoing projects will be completed to maintain Korle Bu’s leading role in healthcare delivery.

Dr. Ampomah revealed that several infrastructure projects have been completed, including the urology-nephrology center, psychiatric unit, and diabetes center, with various wards receiving renovations. He also mentioned the installation of state-of-the-art equipment, such as a 128-slice CT scan and a functional MRI machine, to enhance patient care.

Dr. Ampomah emphasized that Korle Bu’s expertise and specialized facilities attract patients from across the country and the West African sub-region. He appealed to Corporate Ghana, philanthropic organizations, and individuals to adopt a ward in the hospital to support care delivery, outlining a series of planned activities for the centenary celebrations, themed “100 ways of celebrating 100 years.”
