The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has announced the renewal of curfew hours for Chereponi Township and its surrounding areas in the North East Region. The curfew, which takes effect on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, will be in place from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am.
This decision comes as part of the government’s efforts to maintain peace and security in the region. The Ministry of Interior has urged the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of Chereponi to exercise restraint in the face of challenges.
The government is encouraging the use of non-violent means to resolve issues and promote peace in the area. A statement released by the Ministry emphasized the need for calm and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
In addition to the curfew, a total ban has been placed on carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons in the affected communities. Anyone found with arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted, the statement warned.
The government’s measures aim to prevent violence and ensure the safety of all individuals in Chereponi and its environs. By renewing the curfew and imposing a ban on weapons, the Ministry hopes to maintain stability and peace in the region.
