Interior Minister Accused of Bribing NDC MPs

The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has made a shocking allegation against the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey. Asiedu Nketia claims that the Interior Minister attempted to bribe Minority MPs with police recruitment slots to silence their opposition to the recruitment of party foot soldiers into the police force.

Asiedu Nketia expressed grave concerns about the implications of such actions for peace in the upcoming election. He stated that the Interior Minister’s clandestine activities do not bode well for peace and called on bodies like the National Peace Council and the Catholic Bishops Conference to address the issue publicly.

Asiedu Nketia emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the recruitment process, citing the potential for violence and unrest. He alleged that the Interior Minister had attempted to recruit about 10,000 party foot soldiers into the security services but faced resistance from NDC MPs.

Asiedu Nketia claimed that the Interior Minister offered to recruit two persons from each constituency in exchange for the MPs’ support, but the NDC MPs rejected the offer. He revealed that he had advised NDC MPs not to accept the offer, stating that even one person would lead to the recruitment of 10,000 others.

Asiedu Nketia also claimed that the Interior Minister made the offer privately to the Minority leadership, but the NDC firmly opposed it, insisting that any recruitment must follow proper procedures. The NDC has petitioned the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) regarding this matter, and Asiedu Nketia called for the withdrawal of recruitment advertisements pending CHRAJ’s determination.
