Frank Dzikunu, also known as Angel FD, has achieved a significant milestone with the nomination of his short film, Kindness Right Back at You, for the upcoming Lagos International Festival of Animation (LIFANIMA). This prestigious festival, which is a key event in Africa’s animation calendar, is set to take place on October 29, 2024, in Lagos, Nigeria, a major hub for the film industry.

LIFANIMA, celebrated for its role in advancing animation across Africa, offers a critical platform for emerging animators and industry professionals. The festival attracts investors, producers, and representatives from various sectors, making it an essential networking opportunity for the continent’s animation community.

Dzikunu’s film, Kindness Right Back at You, narrates the story of Mawuli, a young university graduate in Accra, Ghana, who faces challenges in securing employment. On the day of a crucial job interview, Mawuli’s character is tested when he finds a briefcase belonging to a wealthy businessman at a bus stop. Despite the potential risk to his job prospects, Mawuli returns the briefcase, only to later learn that the businessman is part of the interview panel. His integrity and honesty ultimately earn him the job, emphasizing the film’s central message that kindness and integrity can lead to unforeseen opportunities.

Frank Dzikunu, the director of the film, is a notable figure in the animation sector. He is the founder of Angel FD Animation and a student at the University of Cape Coast, where he is pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science. Dzikunu’s interest in animation began at age 19 during his time at Bompeh Senior High Technical School. He initially worked as a foreman at Wangkang Ceramic Company Ltd, where he created his first significant work, The Dance, Most Original, set to the music of Stonebwoy.

Dzikunu’s dedication to animation is evident in his work, including projects that raise awareness about the COVID-19 pandemic and promote altruism. His efforts have earned him recognition both locally and internationally, including a first runner-up position at the AMAA Startimes Short Film Festival in 2022.

The nomination of Kindness Right Back at You at LIFANIMA 2024 highlights not only Dzikunu’s talent but also the growing impact of African animation on the global stage.
