The National Council of Private Teachers has announced that a boycott of the 2024 general elections may occur if the government does not address ongoing issues within the educational sector.

The Council has voiced frustration over several critical problems impacting private educators, including steep taxes imposed on private schools and the exclusion of these institutions from government STEM education programs.

In a recent interview, James Kwame Ackon, Executive Director of the National Council of Private Teachers, explained the reasons behind their threat to boycott.

Ackon pointed out that excessive taxation is hindering private school owners’ ability to adequately compensate their staff.

Additionally, he criticized the government’s handling of university graduates who face high unemployment rates despite their significant educational investments.

Ackon emphasized the perceived lack of benefits in supporting candidates who do not address these pressing issues. He questioned the value of voting when graduates are left struggling to find employment despite their qualifications and licensure.
