George Clooney has voiced his frustration with acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino, who reportedly dismissed him as “not a movie star.” The 63-year-old actor, in a recent interview with GQ alongside Brad Pitt, expressed his irritation at Tarantino’s comments.
“Quentin said some shit about me recently,” Clooney told the magazine. He recounted an interview in which Tarantino was discussing notable movie stars and allegedly remarked, “Well, what about George?” to which he responded, “He’s not a movie star.” Tarantino then reportedly challenged Clooney’s star status by asking, “Name me a movie since the millennium,” which Clooney found particularly irksome, given that much of his career has been in the 21st century.
Clooney’s comments did not specify the exact interview, but Tarantino has previously criticized actors in Marvel superhero films, suggesting they are “not movie stars.”
After Pitt chuckled at the anecdote, Clooney added, “So now I’m like, all right, dude, f*** off. I don’t mind giving him shit. He gave me s%^t.”
Despite the tension, Clooney acknowledged the importance of working with talented directors and writing. “Director and screenplay is what keeps you alive. And I learned that after doing some really bad films. You can’t make a good film out of a bad script. You can make a bad film out of a good script. You can f*** it up,” he said.
Clooney first gained significant recognition when he starred opposite Tarantino in the 1996 cult classic From Dusk Till Dawn, directed by Robert Rodriguez. Tarantino also directed an episode of ER featuring Clooney. Additionally, Tarantino collaborated with Pitt on Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood and Inglourious Basterds.
Looking ahead, Clooney and Pitt are set to star together in the upcoming film Wolfs, which revolves around fixers who are forced to work together.
