Gabby Otchere-Darko Criticizes Lack of Recognition for Akufo-Addo’s Achievements

- Otchere-Darko emphasized the President’s significant progress in key sectors
- He contrasted Akufo-Addo’s achievements with the challenges faced
- Otchere-Darko reflected on how Ghana has been affected by the global crisis
Gabby Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has voiced his frustration over the inadequate acknowledgment of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s substantial achievements.
Despite the President’s significant advancements in crucial areas like education and health, Mr. Otchere-Darko feels that Akufo-Addo has not been given the credit he deserves.
In a recent interview with an Accra-based television station, Mr. Otchere-Darko highlighted the improvements in overall conditions, particularly noting the maintained quality of education despite increased access.
He argued that if more children are accessing education and the quality remains high, it is a significant achievement. Additionally, he pointed out that the increase in the number of teachers and the fact that they are receiving their salaries further underscore Akufo-Addo’s accomplishments.
Mr. Otchere-Darko contrasted this with the situation under former President Mahama, recalling the widespread business struggles during Mahama’s term due to frequent power outages, known as “Dumsor.”
He praised Akufo-Addo’s administration for its resilience, especially in comparison to Mahama’s government, which sought an IMF bailout despite the lack of a global economic crisis at the time.
He reflected on the severe impact of the global crisis on Ghana and speculated that the country might have fared worse under a different leadership.
Although acknowledging the hardships Ghanaians have faced in recent years due to the cost of living crisis, Otchere-Darko noted signs of improvement and a return to normalcy.
