Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi, has admitted to orchestrating Fredrick Opare Ansah’s loss in the 2020 primaries, paving the way for Oboafo Kwadjo Asante to win the Suhum seat.

In a surprising development, Asante, the current MP, has announced plans to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming election, despite earlier assurances from Acheampong that he would not.

This move has created significant upheaval within the Suhum branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

During a visit to Suhum, NPP Presidential Candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, along with Acheampong, attempted to persuade Asante to withdraw his independent bid, but Asante reaffirmed his decision at a community event in Akorabo.

Asante’s defiance has deepened divisions within the party, with him focusing on community projects rather than NPP activities.

Meanwhile, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, the official NPP parliamentary candidate, is ramping up his campaign to compete against Asante’s independent bid.
