Dancehall legend Vybz Kartel has announced plans to host his first music concert in December 2024, marking a major milestone in his career following a 13-year imprisonment.
In a recent podcast, Kartel expressed his excitement about the upcoming event and acknowledged the steadfast support of his fans, who have eagerly anticipated his return to the stage.
“I’ve heard the cries of my fans for a comeback concert, and we’re making it happen,” Kartel said. He confirmed that preparations for the concert are already underway and promised that additional details would be released soon, building further anticipation among his supporters.
Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was released from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in Kingston on July 31, 2024. This followed a ruling by the Court of Appeal, which decided not to retry him and his co-accused for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
Kartel, alongside Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John, was originally convicted in 2014 for the 2011 murder of Williams. Although their convictions were upheld by the local Court of Appeal in 2020, the case was later taken to the UK-based Privy Council. On March 14, 2024, the Privy Council overturned the murder convictions due to juror misconduct, leading the case to be remitted to the Jamaica Court of Appeal for a decision on a potential retrial.
As Vybz Kartel prepares for his highly anticipated return, fans and industry insiders are eagerly awaiting what is set to be a historic event in dancehall music.
