SSNIT Director-General Urges Increased Use of Technology to Enhance Service Delivery
- Marfo highlighted the importance of technology
- He said SSNIT will launch a digital platform
- Marfo urged stakeholders to continue promoting the Scheme
Kofi Osafo Marfo, Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), has emphasized the need for the organization to leverage technology to improve service delivery, particularly in processing and paying benefits promptly.
Speaking at the 2024 SSNIT Operations and Benefits Conference, Marfo highlighted the importance of technology in achieving the organization’s goals.
The conference, held at the Elmina Beach Resort, focused on the theme “Sustaining the SSNIT Scheme Through Increased Active Membership and Adequate Contribution Collections Using Appropriate Technology.” Marfo noted that this theme aligns with SSNIT’s objectives as a pension organization, which include enhancing compliance and sustainability through technology.
Marfo announced that SSNIT will launch a digital platform comprising a new website, portal, upgraded USSD platform, and a mobile app.
This will enable members and clients to conveniently transact business with SSNIT using their mobile phones.
The Director-General outlined SSNIT’s strategic direction, which is based on three pillars: expanding coverage, adopting state-of-the-art technology for financial data management, and maintaining adequate and relevant benefits.
He also highlighted the pressing issue of sustaining the Scheme due to factors such as the maturing phase and outlook fund, where benefit payments are increasing faster than contribution collections.
Marfo urged stakeholders to continue promoting the Scheme and applying situational management skills.
Juliana Kpedekpo, Deputy Director-General of Operations and Benefits, emphasized that technology will enhance the visibility of business operations, provide real-time updates, and establish transparency in the Trust’s operations.
She noted that digital platforms will offer user-friendly interfaces for workers to register, check contributions, manage accounts, and perform other functions without visiting SSNIT offices.
