George Opare Addo, National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused some members of the clergy of showing bias towards the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). He criticized these religious leaders for their silence on allegations of state capture and corruption under the current administration.
Speaking at the launch of the NDC’s youth manifesto, Opare Addo alleged that these clergymen, along with certain corrupt civil society groups and compromised media outlets, were once vocal supporters of the NPP. However, he claimed they have now turned a blind eye to the alleged corruption within the government.
Opare Addo stated that these individuals were once outspoken but have now “disappeared and turned deaf and blind” to the corruption and hardships faced by Ghanaians. He emphasized that the Ghanaian youth will not stand idle and allow politicians to engage in state capture.
Opare Addo suggested that the youth are becoming increasingly vigilant and are prepared to hold political leaders accountable. He stated that the youth will ensure power is used for the benefit of the people, rather than personal or political gain.
Opare Addo also mentioned that some individuals have apologized to former President Mahama for their past actions, which he believes were aimed at destroying his reputation. He concluded by emphasizing the youth’s determination to hold leaders accountable for their suffering and to fight against corruption and state capture.
