Mahama Promises 24-Hour Economy to Combat Youth Unemployment
- The 24-hour economy will facilitate continuous operations in various sectors
- Mahama proposed improvements in street security and lighting
- The former president committed to developing digital skills among the youth
John Mahama, the Presidential Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has presented a bold solution to tackle the high rates of youth unemployment in Ghana.
During the launch of the NDC’s National Youth Manifesto, the former president highlighted the party’s commitment to implementing a 24-hour economy policy starting in 2025.
Mahama described this policy as a transformative approach to stimulate economic growth, create job opportunities, and promote innovation.
By operating around the clock, the policy is expected to allow for job sharing across three shifts, potentially creating three job positions where there was previously only one.
He emphasized that this initiative would not only enhance economic development but also improve service delivery and address youth unemployment in both public and private sectors.
To ensure the success of this policy, Mahama stressed the importance of enhanced street security and better street lighting.
Furthermore, Mahama pledged to equip young people with digital skills through initiatives like the Accra Digital Centre, which aims to offer training and job opportunities in the digital sector.
His administration also plans to collaborate with telecommunication companies to lower data costs and provide free Wi-Fi in schools and key public areas.
Mahama urged the youth to remain hopeful and active, reminding them that their votes are crucial in shaping Ghana’s future.
