The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has revealed a significant loss of GH¢3.7 million due to illegal power connections in the Northern region. This staggering figure was disclosed by Osman Ayuba, Managing Director of NEDCo, during an appearance before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Monday, August 12.
Ayuba explained that the company has taken decisive action to address the issue, resulting in the issuance of summons to offenders. A total of 627 summons have been issued to individuals and entities engaging in illegal connections in the Northern region alone.
Out of this number, 473 summons were served in the Northern area, while 103 individuals were served in the same region. NEDCo-wide, a total of 173 summons were issued to offenders.
Efforts to curb the menace of illegal connections have yielded positive results, with NEDCo recovering GH¢1.5 million from offenders. Ayuba emphasized that the company is committed to minimizing losses and preventing further illegal connections.
The Managing Director revealed that the estimated power loss or stolen power in the Northern area alone amounts to GH¢3.7 million. NEDCo-wide, the estimated power loss or stolen power totals GH¢4.1 million, highlighting the severity of the issue.
