Commuters who use the Ofankor-Pokuase stretch on the N6 Highway can expect relief soon, as the ongoing construction works are set to be completed by the end of September 2024. Chief Resident Engineer on the Pokuase-Nsawam Highway project, Ing. Kwabena Bempong, made the announcement, stating that the 2.3-kilometer stretch will be opened to traffic shortly.
When asked about the project’s completion percentage, Ing. Bempong estimated it to be around 70% complete, citing the completion of 1.2 kilometers of asphalt, known as the binder layer. He emphasized that the plan is to complete the project by the end of September, with some portions already nearing completion.
Ing. Bempong noted that certain areas, such as the Amasaman interchange, Pobiman overpass, and Medie overpass, will remain under construction due to ongoing work on overpasses and interchanges. The completed stretch will be opened to traffic up to the China Mall, marking a significant milestone in the project’s progress.
Ing. Bempong provided a detailed description of the 8-lane road, which will feature 2-lane service roads on either side to ease heavy vehicular traffic. The road will have 4 lanes in each direction, with 2 lanes in the middle and 2-lane service roads on either side, ensuring a smooth flow of traffic.
Additionally, the railway bridge has been rebuilt to accommodate at least 2 railway lines in the future, a significant improvement over the single line previously available. The completion of the Ofankor-Pokuase stretch is expected to bring relief to commuters and mark a major milestone in the Pokuase-Nsawam Highway project.
