The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has revealed its strategy to capture 85 percent of the votes in the Ashanti Region for the 2024 presidential election. Key to this effort will be an extensive door-to-door campaign. At the campaign launch, Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako emphasized that the party remains focused on securing all parliamentary seats in the region.
Our goal of winning all 47 constituencies is still on track and we are committed to achieving it,” he stated. “We are also working towards the running mate’s target of securing 85 percent of the vote.”
While the Ashanti Region continues to be a stronghold for the New Patriotic Party, the highest percentage of votes the party has achieved in a general election there is 76.2 percent.
The party initially aimed for slightly over 70 percent of the vote in the upcoming elections, but running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh raised this target to 85 percent during his unveiling in Kumasi.
Although many view this goal as ambitious, Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has embraced the challenge. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Chairman of the NPP Manifesto Committee, emphasized that achieving this target will heavily rely on the effectiveness of the party’s organizational units.
He believes that with a strong organizational structure, party members can create an effective door-to-door campaign to communicate the NPP’s message. Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu noted that the polling station structure has been ineffective since the last election. “While aiming higher is positive, our best performance in the past four elections has been around 76 percent. We need to revitalize the party’s organizational units to meet the new target. Our polling station agents have not engaged with voters’ homes since the last election,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chief of Staff Akosua Fremah Opare has highlighted the crucial role of the women’s wing in achieving the set target.
