The Minority in Parliament has officially requested a meeting with the Ghana Police Service to discuss the upcoming second #OccupyBoG demonstration. The protest, scheduled to take place in the coming weeks, aims to demand the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his deputies.
The Minority seeks to ensure a peaceful demonstration without confrontations with law enforcement, similar to the previous #OccupyBoG protest. In a petition to the Ghana Police Service on Monday, August 12, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson emphasized the importance of maintaining order.
Dr. Forson stressed that the previous demonstration was conducted peacefully and the group intends to uphold the same standard. The Minority seeks the cooperation of the police to ensure the safety of all participants in the upcoming event.
Dr. Forson noted that the planned protest is a response to the “gross mismanagement” of the country’s economy under the Bank of Ghana’s leadership. He reiterated the group’s demands for accountability, transparency, and the immediate resignation of the central bank’s leadership.
The Minority hopes that by engaging with law enforcement early on, they can agree on a date for the protest and avoid any disruptions to public order. The letter concludes by requesting a meeting with the Police to discuss the modalities for the demonstration and ensure a peaceful event.
