Mahama Advocates for Employment Over Allowances for Trainee Nurses

Former President John Dramani Mahama has advised trainee nurses to prioritize securing permanent employment over depending on allowances.

Speaking to a group of trainee nurses on Saturday, Mahama underscored the need for creating sustainable job opportunities within Ghana’s healthcare sector.

While acknowledging the financial struggles faced by trainee nurses, Mahama emphasized that stable, long-term employment offers greater benefits than temporary allowances.

He assured that his administration would focus on job creation in the healthcare field to provide nurses and other healthcare professionals with stable and fulfilling careers.

Mahama criticized the current administration for failing to address these issues effectively.

He highlighted that his government had proposed replacing allowances with student loans to foster more employment opportunities.

He noted the current administration’s failure to pay long-overdue allowances, with some nurses leaving school without receiving their due payments.

In his commitment to addressing these issues, Mahama promised to continue and complete abandoned hospital projects and the Agenda 111 hospitals if re-elected.

This, he argued, would create additional job opportunities for graduating nurses and improve the healthcare infrastructure.

He concluded by framing the upcoming election as a choice between Ghana’s future and the current government’s policies.
