The Kadjebi District in the Oti Region has confirmed two cases of Dengue Fever, following thorough testing conducted on four individuals in the area. The tests, carried out by the renowned Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, revealed that a 24-year-old female and a 21-year-old male have contracted the disease.
According to a circular signed by the Acting Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. David Sarpong Opong, the two patients are responding well to treatment. This brings the total number of Dengue Fever cases in Ghana to 38, following an earlier report of 36 cases in the Eastern and Central regions on July 17.
The initial cases affected farmers in the Birim Central, Birim North, Akyemansa, Birim South, and Achiase districts in the Eastern Region. The Ghana Health Service (GHS) collected samples from the affected areas as part of an enhanced surveillance effort to monitor the spread of the disease.
Health experts in the Oti Region are now working tirelessly to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread of the disease. The confirmation of Dengue Fever cases in the Oti Region has raised concerns about the need for increased awareness and education on the disease.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take preventive measures, such as eliminating mosquito breeding sites and using insecticide-treated bed nets. The Ghana Health Service is working closely with local authorities to ensure that the outbreak is brought under control, and the public is assured of their commitment to containing the spread of Dengue Fever.
