Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly condemned the current state of Ghana’s economy. Speaking at the launch of the NDC Youth Manifesto on August 12, Kwetey emphasized that the past eight years have witnessed an unprecedented collapse of the economy.
He noted that the hopes of Ghanaian youth have been crushed since the current government took office. Kwetey highlighted the stark contrast between the NDC’s tenure and the current administration, recalling how young people flocked back to Ghana in 2009 due to renewed hope.
However, he lamented that the opposite is now true, with many young people desperate to flee the country. Kwetey attributed this exodus to the collapse of the economy and the loss of hope among young people.
He emphasized that the NDC’s policies, to be unveiled by former President John Mahama, would restore hope and address the country’s challenges. Kwetey stressed that policies alone are not enough, noting that the current government has also unveiled policies, such as NABCO, which have failed to yield results.
He criticized NABCO as a “scam” and a “419 policy” designed solely to garner votes, rather than drive progress. Kwetey concluded by highlighting the NDC’s commitment to prioritizing policy and progress over political expediency.
