The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has called on Ghanaians to bolster support for breastfeeding mothers and their children in honor of World Breastfeeding Week 2024.

In a statement, the FDA underscored the significant health benefits of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers.

They highlighted the need to foster a supportive environment to promote breastfeeding practices effectively.

Breastfeeding is noted for delivering crucial nutrients and antibodies that shield infants from common illnesses, strengthening the bond between mother and child, and boosting overall health and well-being.

Despite these benefits, the statement pointed out that breastfeeding practices still face challenges and disparities, particularly in marginalized and underserved communities. Mothers often encounter social, psychological, and informational barriers that hinder successful breastfeeding.

The FDA also expressed appreciation for UNICEF’s ongoing support and collaboration in creating safe environments and enhancing conditions for mothers and children.
