Ghanaian comedian Derick Kobina Bonney, popularly known as DKB, has shared a heart-wrenching account of his ongoing struggle to connect with his father, a man he has not seen or spoken to in over three decades.
At 38 years old, DKB revealed that he still does not know his father, except for his name, Michael. He last had contact with his father at the age of five, a time too early for him to remember his father’s face.
DKB has made efforts to reconnect with his father, but his search has been met with several dead ends. In a recent attempt, he reached out to his father via phone call, but was told that his father was not in Accra at the time. When DKB requested a picture or selfie, his father claimed that his camera was not functioning properly.
Further investigation revealed that DKB’s father might be working with the Registry of Catholic University in Sunyani. However, checks revealed that the main registrar is a Reverend Father, and the deputy is too young to be his father, leaving DKB with more questions than answers.
The experience has left DKB with a sense of loss, but also a powerful message for others. “Appreciate your fathers, regardless of their flaws or the difficulties in your relationships,” he urged. “Some of us may never have the chance to know or connect with ours.”
