The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman, has announced a pioneering initiative to digitize the Ghana School Feeding Programme, aiming to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability.

In a press briefing held in Accra on Thursday, August 8, Ms. Newman revealed that the digitalization process will begin in September of the 2024-25 academic year. This new system will oversee caterer selection, data collection, and payment processes, thereby streamlining operations and minimizing redundancy.

Prospective caterers will need to apply online, pay a GHC200 fee, and create a profile for eligibility assessment. They must also submit essential documents such as health certificates, business operating permits, and proof of financial capability.

Ms. Newman highlighted that the digital system will offer real-time updates, allowing the ministry to monitor progress more effectively. The system will initially be piloted in the New Juaben South (Eastern Region) and Krachi East (Oti) Districts before a nationwide rollout.

The minister urged caterers to embrace the new online application system, emphasizing its role in fostering a paperless and environmentally friendly society.
