Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ayamga Yakubu Akolgo has informed the Attorney General of his plans to sue the Ghana Police Service, citing “unfair promotion and breach of law and due process.”
In a letter dated August 8, 2024, ACP Akolgo expressed his intention to take legal action against the Ghana Police Service for promoting junior officers over senior officers without just cause or proper procedure. He emphasized that these actions violate fair opportunity and due process, disrupting command and control within the service.
“This is to notify you of my intention to seek redress in court against the Ghana Police Service. The action concerns unfair promotion and breach of due process in promoting junior officers above seniors without just cause and proper procedure. It is against the denial of fair opportunity and circumvention of law and due process, which tends to disturb command and control,” ACP Akolgo wrote.
He criticized the recent promotion practices as lacking merit, seniority, and transparency, labeling them as unjust, unfair, unlawful, and unconstitutional. ACP Akolgo, who considers himself a victim of these promotions, plans to rely on Article 23 to seek justice in court.
