The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has categorically denied allegations that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s actions have caused diplomatic tension between Ghana and Burkina Faso. In a statement released on Saturday, August 10, the Ministry described the claims as “wholly unfounded” and lacking substantial evidence or merit.

The allegations were made by former President John Dramani Mahama, who claimed that President Akufo-Addo’s recent commentary and engagement with the United States government had strained relations between Ghana and Burkina Faso.

However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has dismissed these claims, stating that under President Akufo-Addo, diplomatic efforts have consistently been directed towards fostering constructive and respectful relations with all nations, including Burkina Faso.

In fact, the Ministry noted that a ministerial visit to Burkina Faso in 2022, followed by a presidential visit in 2023, received the highest level of courtesies and hospitality, reinforcing the commitment of the two countries to building stronger bonds of cooperation.

The Ministry emphasized that President Akufo-Addo’s leadership has been dedicated to advancing diplomacy in a manner that upholds the values of diplomacy and promotes peaceful engagement on the global stage.

Ghana remains committed to maintaining diplomatic relationships with Burkina Faso, guided by the principles of mutual respect and cooperation, the Ministry stated. The Ministry called for a focus on building bridges and strengthening ties with neighboring countries, rather than spreading falsehoods that undermine the spirit of international cooperation.

It is clear that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration is taking a strong stance against allegations that President Akufo-Addo’s actions have caused diplomatic tension with Burkina Faso. By setting the record straight, the Ministry aims to promote a positive and constructive narrative about Ghana’s diplomatic efforts and its commitment to fostering strong relationships with neighboring countries.
