Ghanaian actress Kafui Danku has voiced her hope for a transformative shift in the Ghanaian film industry if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wins the upcoming December 7 election.

In an interview on Hitz FM, Danku highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the film industry, including persistent issues with funding and distribution. Despite these setbacks, she expressed optimism that a victory for the NDC could lead to positive changes.

“Funding and distribution have always been challenges, but things have only gotten worse; the situation has further declined. I was hoping for improvement, but if we all stop putting in effort or lose our passion, it will never get better. So, we need to keep working, continue doing our part, and perhaps try something different to see if it brings a positive change,” Danku stated.

She further conveyed her confidence in the NDC’s Presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, noting his commitment to the arts industry. “I’ve been closely following John Mahama’s campaign, his posts, and everything he’s been doing. He’s very passionate about our industry. I’ve heard him talk about how he can’t wait for us to have access to 5G so we can create content. He has plans for us. You’ve probably seen in the news how he’s supported veteran actors. It’s clear he has a passion for the arts and cares about those who paved the way. So, I know that when he’s back in power, he will do something to make things better,” she said.

Danku also critiqued the current economic conditions under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), suggesting that they have been detrimental to Ghanaians. “I am Ghanaian. I live in Ghana. I work in Ghana. I eat and breathe in Ghana. Are you not feeling the heat? Let’s just go back to the basics. During a different era, we had a more stable exchange rate; it was much better. I was working on a project that got stuck because of fluctuating quotes. When I save money for a project, by the time I want to proceed, the costs have changed again. The cost of living has really affected me over the past few years. A lot has happened. So, I believe change will be better,” she added.
