- He takes over the England national team
- Carsley boasts a successful coaching career
Former England midfielder Lee Carsley has been appointed as the interim manager of the national team.
The decision comes in the wake of Gareth Southgate’s resignation following England’s Euro 2024 final defeat.
Carsley, who has been at the helm of the England Under-21s since 2021, will oversee the team for September’s Nations League matches.
The FA is currently in the process of identifying a permanent successor to Southgate.
The 50-year-old expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and outlined his immediate goals.
“It’s a huge honor to step up to this role,” said Carsley. “My focus is on ensuring continuity within the squad and securing promotion in the Nations League.”
Carsley boasts a successful coaching career, having led the England Under-21s to European Championship glory in 2023.
His deep knowledge of the English player pool makes him a suitable choice for the interim position.
