  • Camidoh apologizes for defending smoking, calls his previous analogy "poor" and "dumb"
  • The Ghanaian Afrobeats artist expresses regret for his mistake, correcting his stance on the dangers of smoking

Ghanaian Afrobeats artist Camidoh has issued a public apology and retracted his earlier defense of smoking, acknowledging that his comments were misguided.

In a recent interview with Roselyn Felli on Prime Morning, Camidoh had argued that smoking might not be inherently harmful, drawing a controversial comparison to the smoke produced while cooking kenkey. He suggested that the effects of smoking could be subjective and not necessarily damaging depending on individual circumstances.

During the interview, Camidoh remarked, “Not everything that is portrayed as negative is negative,” and responded to whether smoking is bad by stating, “If it’s bad for you, it is bad for you. The doctors have to detect that.” He further compared the smoke from smoking to that from cooking kenkey, claiming, “It is not bad in my eyes because I’m telling a story.”

Despite these assertions, Camidoh has since reconsidered his stance. In a recent tweet, he described his previous analogy as “poor” and “dumb,” and apologized for his earlier comments. The artist expressed genuine regret for defending smoking, acknowledging the inappropriateness of his previous statements.

Camidoh, whose real name is Raphael Camidoh Kofi Attachie, is celebrated for his significant contributions to the Ghanaian music industry. His hit single ‘Sugarcane’ notably became the most viewed Ghanaian music video on YouTube in May 2024.
