Baba Sadiq Addresses Backlash Over Viral Fufu Pounding Video

Story Highlights
  • Baba Sadiq faces social media backlash over viral fufu-pounding photo
  • He claims his actions were driven by a desire to connect with the community, not for votes
  • Sadiq remains unfazed by negative comments, prioritizing constituent feedback instead

Entertainment entrepreneur and politician Baba Sadiq has addressed the public reaction following a photo of him participating in a traditional activity during a recent campaign. The image, which shows Sadiq pounding fufu while canvassing door-to-door in the Greater Accra Region’s Okaikoi Central constituency, became a social media sensation.

The photo, which went viral after being shared by Sadiq’s photographers, drew mixed reactions from netizens. In a recent interview with Hitz FM, Sadiq explained that his intent was to foster community connection rather than to gain political favor.

“Sometimes, when you go from house to house, you meet them. It’s just familiarity. You go to their house, you see her pounding, and you decide to help her. It wasn’t to attract anything,” Sadiq remarked.

Despite the online criticism, Sadiq expressed that he remains unfazed by the negative feedback. “It was funny. When you’re a politician and you know the realities, some of these comments don’t get to you. You just laugh about it and move on,” he added.

Sadiq emphasized that the reactions from the woman he assisted and other local constituents were of greater significance to him than the online responses.
