Peter Leahy, the artist formerly known as Young Dapper, is rapidly making a name for himself in the Ghanaian music industry with his unique sound and ambitious vision. Operating under his real name, Leahy has chosen an independent path, running his own label, Cream De La Kush Records, rather than signing with a major label. This decision, he says, is driven by his desire for creative freedom and control over his music career.
Leahy’s interest in the Ghanaian music scene was sparked by his successful collaboration with Kelvyn Boy, a prominent figure in the Afrobeat genre. The experience inspired him to delve deeper into the Ghanaian market. “The collaboration with Kelvyn Boy was a significant inspiration. It opened doors for me to explore further opportunities in Ghana,” he stated.
The Australian-born musician has described his foray into the Ghanaian market as a pivotal moment in his career, allowing him to broaden his musical scope and audience. His recent works include notable collaborations with Rachel Rose, a globally renowned wedding dress designer and musician. Their joint tracks, “Rachel Rose” and “Energy,” highlight Leahy’s versatility and his ability to merge diverse artistic influences.
One of his standout singles, “Something About Her,” has achieved significant success, amassing over 70,000 streams on Spotify and solidifying his position as an emerging talent. Additionally, his collaboration with Kelvyn Boy on the track “Reloaded” has been met with positive reception, climbing to the top 10 on iTunes in September 2023.
Leahy’s forthcoming release with the Ghanaian music duo Keche is eagerly anticipated, and he expects it to make a substantial impact upon its release. He has also hinted at future collaborations with some of Ghana’s leading artists, promising an array of exciting and dance-ready tracks for his fans.
Following a media tour in May 2024, during which he met with key stakeholders in the Ghanaian music industry, Leahy is preparing to perform at the Aussie Pub and Lounge in Swedru on New Year’s Eve. This performance will mark his continued presence in Ghana.
Looking to the future, Peter Leahy envisions his music topping charts not only in Ghana but globally. He plans to embark on a worldwide tour, aiming to perform at major international venues and connect with a diverse audience. With the backing of his dedicated team, he remains confident that these goals are well within reach.
