Osafo-Maafo Commends SSNIT’s Progress

- SSNIT has made significant progress in recent years.
- Three key pillars guide SSNIT's affairs: sustainability, technology, and benefits.
- Technology adoption has improved data management and efficiency.
- Public sector institutions' indebtedness to SSNIT is a concern.
The Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, has highlighted the significant progress made by the trust in recent years. Speaking at the 2024 annual operations and benefits conference in Elmina, Central Region, Osafo-Maafo outlined the three key pillars guiding the trust’s affairs.
These pillars focus on ensuring the sustainability of the scheme, adopting cutting-edge technology, and providing adequate benefits to members. Osafo-Maafo emphasized the importance of expanding coverage, enforcing compliance, prudent investment, and responsible governance to guarantee the scheme’s sustainability.
He noted that significant strides have been made in improving the sustainability of the scheme, citing the expansion of coverage and enforcement of compliance as key achievements. The adoption of state-of-the-art technology has also improved the management and maintenance of accurate data, financial data, and overall efficiency.
Osafo-Maafo illustrated the impact of technology by comparing the past, where manual processes required significant resources, to the present, where tasks can be accomplished with minimal equipment. The third pillar, ensuring adequate benefits, has also seen significant improvements, with marked increases in contributions from the private and public sectors.
However, Osafo-Maafo expressed concern over the indebtedness of public sector institutions to the trust, highlighting the need for improved compliance. The conference aims to provide strategies for expanding coverage and leveraging technology to enhance the scheme’s operations and benefits.
