No Corruption Evidence Found Against Mahama in Airbus Scandal Probe

- Mahama identified as Government Official 1, but cleared of wrongdoing.
- Brother Samuel Mahama identified as Intermediary 5, linked to bribes.
- Airbus officials accused of bribery schemes.
- OSP investigation ongoing to hold accountable those involved.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has identified former President John Dramani Mahama as Government Official 1 in the Airbus scandal. The OSP confirmed that Mahama was identified as Government Official 1 by the UK court and Individual 1 by the US court, but played no role in the acquisition of the aircraft.
The OSP also identified Samuel Mahama, the brother of the former president, as Intermediary 5 in the scandal. The investigation into the Airbus scandal began in 2020, during the administration of former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu.
The scandal involves the purchase of two military transport aircraft from Airbus for the Ghana Armed Forces during Mahama’s administration. A UK court heard charges against Samuel Adam Mahama Foster and his UK friends in the Airbus SE-Ghana case and issued an arrest warrant for them, resulting in an INTERPOL Red Notice.
The OSP confirmed that John Dramani Mahama was not involved in the acquisition of the aircraft, despite being identified as Government Official 1. The investigation found that Airbus officials engaged in schemes to bribe intermediaries with close links to high-ranking state officials to secure contracts.
The OSP’s findings confirm that Mahama played no role in the scandal, despite initial suspicions. The investigation is ongoing, and the OSP may rely on Mutual Legal Assistance provisions to mount charges against individuals involved in the scandal.
