The Koforidua High Court, under Justice George Krofa Addae, has sentenced 53-year-old Musa Maliki, also known as Musa Bariki, to life imprisonment for the murder of three people, including his 12-year-old girlfriend, in the village of Ayenasu in the Eastern Region.
After a protracted fifteen-year trial, the court convicted Maliki on three counts of murder. According to the Criminal Offences Amendment Act, 2003, the sentence for each count of murder is life imprisonment, to be served concurrently.
The case details show that both the accused, Musa Maliki, and Issifu Musa were herdsmen in Ayenasu, situated along the Afram River near Sempoa.
The victims included Rama Fati, aged 12, and her sibling, Baliki Maliki, aged 18. Issifu Musa, aged 20, was their uncle.
Maliki had persistently sought to marry the young Fati Rama, who rejected his advances. On October 10, 2009, around 7:00 pm, Issifu Musa sent Fati and another person to buy Milo for him. Maliki intercepted them, dragged Fati into his room, and assaulted her.
When Issifu Musa and Baliki Maliki came to her aid, a confrontation ensued but was broken up by local residents.
Maliki, angered by the intervention, launched a violent attack later that night. He fatally stabbed Baliki Maliki and slit Fati’s throat, while Issifu Musa was killed when he tried to confront Maliki. A young witness managed to escape by hiding on the roof.
Maliki fled the scene but was apprehended by the police on February 11, 2010, in Nkawkaw. He confessed to the murders during police questioning.
Following his conviction, the Koforidua High Court sentenced him to life imprisonment for his heinous crimes.
