Bawumia’s Campaign Team Defends GHC200m Contract Award to His Brother

Story Highlights
  • NDC has criticized Dr. Bawumia for allegedly benefiting from single-source procurement contracts
  • Sammy Gyamfi has called on Ghanaians to vote against the current government
  • Anthony Abayifaa Karbo from the NPP campaign team confirmed the existence of the contracts

The campaign team for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, has responded to claims regarding the allocation of over GHC200 million in contracts to his brother.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in its latest Moment of Truth series, has accused Dr. Bawumia of not being able to distance himself from alleged state capture by the current administration.

The NDC’s Communications Officer highlighted that, despite Dr. Bawumia’s criticism of single-source procurement, he has benefited from it through contracts awarded to his brother.

Sammy Gyamfi, addressing the Moment of Truth series, urged Ghanaians to vote out the current government to facilitate the investigation and prosecution of appointees of President Akufo-Addo.

He criticized the NPP’s administration as a cover-up for corruption, claiming that a vote for NPP’s flagbearer would be a vote against accountability and transparency.

Sammy Gyamfi asserted that a vote for John Mahama represents a commitment to genuine change and addressing corruption directly.

NPP campaign team member Anthony Abayifaa Karbo in a response confirmed the NDC’s claims but argued that the contracts in question are legitimate.

He explained that sole-sourced contracts, including those involving the Vice President’s brother, are not inherently corrupt.

Abayifaa Karbo noted that similar contracts were awarded under previous administrations, including those led by John Mahama, and emphasized that such contracts, if properly executed, are not necessarily corrupt.
